Breech Birth Quick Guide 2nd Edition

By Nicole Morales, Jamie Mossay, and Gail Tully

Approximately 1 in 25 births are breech. Many breech babies will be born by cesarean birth. Some will be born vaginally whether they are planned or a surprise breech. Increased dependence upon cesarean for breech birth has led to the loss of hands-on skills for other potentially complex births. The revival of breech skills has been slowly growing, and as we increase safety, we must also increase our knowledge of when and how to help. We also believe that in learning breech birth teaches us how to help head down babies when there is a shoulder dystocia or posterior labor. All are intricately linked.

In collaboration with ReStory Birthwork, the Breech Birth Quick Guide, 2nd Edition reveals the unseen story to the breech maneuvers taught in most breech trainings. Build hands-off and hands-on skills for attending both surprise and planned breech birth. There are more advanced anatomical concepts woven in these pages that an experienced practitioner can appreciate that are not usually described elsewhere.

This new edition has over 80 pages of information, which includes more drawings to depict what is happening on the inside and outside of the pelvis. We use the three levels of the pelvis to show both normal, reassuring breech birth as well as complicated breech. The Pelvic Levels SolutionsSM shows how to increase diameters of the pelvis and reduce diameters of the baby to finish a vaginal birth with more safety if the baby were to get stuck. This book is for both beginners and experienced practitioners.
